Sixth Form centre
The new Sixth Form Centre formed part of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation’s Project One Campus development . The new building is intended to provide a different type of learning space that better prepares older students for progression to university.
The internal arrangement is divided vertically into break-out and study zones that become progressively quieter as you move upwards, through the floor levels. The entrance level includes a café and informal dining area that open onto an outdoor courtyard space. A wide timber stair links the ground floor to the next level and provides flexible lecture and break-out space. Semi-private rooms on this floor create project space for small groups. The top floor is dedicated to quiet study.
The stairs, kitchen, plant, and toilets are collected together and bookend the large central spaces on each floor.
The building is constructed from a simple pallet of locally sourced brick, thermally broken composite timber and aluminium windows, and Siberian larch cladding. Internally, the larch battens are used to define the central stair and used in conjunction with absorbent insulation to dampen the acoustics within the space.
