Typically building projects can be divided into three main stages; design, tender, and construction. We enjoy projects most where we can be involved right through the process. However, we are also happy to tailor our service to suit a particular project's needs. That can mean helping to prepare a brief, developing a design up to and including a planning application, preparing tender information, or providing a technical detailing service for construction.
Design
Every project starts with a discussion about ideas. Some clients know precisely what they want to achieve. Others might simply have a rough feeling for the spaces and activities they want. Whatever your particular starting point is, we enjoy listening, sharing ideas, and collaborating, to understand what's important to you and develop the project's brief.
We love drawing and always turn up with a sketchbook and pencil. We use hand sketches throughout the process to quickly explore and communicate our ideas. We also use 3D digital models to explore materials, light, and shade and find these tools invaluable for quickly conveying options during the design stage.
Most projects will require a conversation with the local planning authority and possibly submitting designs for approval. We have good experience, working in sensitive settings, discussing our designs with local officers and preparing successful planning applications.
tender
We enjoy technically detailing our buildings and describing the construction process of how materials are assembled. We use the project’s digital model to seamlessly collaborate and coordinate designs with the other team members.
Specifications and details are developed in stages. An outline set allows an initial cost assessment to ensure the project is developing on budget. This stage of work culminates in a set of detailed construction drawings that can be used to tender the project and select the right contractor for the build.
Construction
During the on-site build, we can assist the contractor with any queries they may have. We can also act as Contract Administrators up to and after completion, regularly visiting the site, overseeing the build process, and keeping clients up to date on progress with regular site reports.
